Technology: Samsung Hints at Curved Edge Galaxy S6

Samsung is set to reveal its latest flagship phone the Galaxy S6 on March 1st during an event in Barcelona, Spain. Of course that’s not for another week or so, but in the mean time while we wait on that, Samsung released a 45 second YouTube video entitled, “Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2015” yesterday.

In the video, Samsung hinted at a metal body phone, with a curved screen around the edge. The screen curving around the edges of the device was originally used on the Galaxy Note Edge. Samsung only made a select number of Note Edge’s and also didn’t make them available in stores.

A metal body would be a complete change to the way the Galaxy looks. If you can recall, previous models of Samsung’s flagship phone had a plastic, glossy feel to it. Rival manufacturer HTC, adopted the metal body beginning with the HTC One (M7), which was released in March 2013.

The Korean tech giant has some ground to make up after Apple gained ground, and eventually tied Samsung as the number 1 smart phone producer in the world. Apple and Samsung both sold 74.5 million smartphones in Q4 of 2014. But the tie was marked with a loss by the marker of the Galaxy series, while the Apple posted gains in smartphone sales.

The Galaxy S6 will be a pivotal release for the Samsung as they continue their battle with US rival Apple for market share in the wireless handset industry.
